FAQ
The essentials about PixelVault, how to use the archive, and how to suggest a topic.
// About PixelVault
What is PixelVault?
PixelVault is an independent, informational archive of retro and arcade gaming history. We cover the eras, arcade cabinets, console generations, and classic genres that shaped video games — all in plain language.
Do you sell games or hardware?
No. PixelVault is purely informational. We describe the history of games and machines, but nothing on the site is for sale.
Do I need an account?
Not at all. Everything here is free to read and there's nothing to sign up for — just insert a coin and press start.
// Using the Archive
Where should I start?
Start with the Eras page — it walks the whole timeline from the first coin-op machines to the leap into 3D. From there, dive into arcade cabinets, console generations, or the classic genres.
Why don't you name specific games and brands?
We describe the history as general eras and technology rather than leaning on specific brands, so the archive stays about the ideas and machines themselves — the things you'll recognise across many titles.
What counts as 'retro'?
There's no strict line, but PixelVault focuses on the era from the first coin-op machines through the early 2000s — roughly the point where modern online gaming begins.

Can I suggest a topic?
Absolutely. Use the Contact page to suggest an era, cabinet, or genre you'd like covered, and it may appear in a future update to the archive.
Do you take corrections?
Yes, gladly. History is full of detail and we'd rather get it right — send a note through the Contact page and we'll take a look.
